Sundays on Parade

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade!

This week we travel back to Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 1984.

On the 50th anniversary of Donal Duck’s first appearance in ‘The Wise Little Hen’ in 1984, Walt Disney Productions decided to celebrate our favorite duck with parades in Disneyland and Wlat Disney World. A new parade was fashioned and the festivities were presented to those who could not attend on The Magical World of Disney which was hosted by Dick Van Dyke on CBS.

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade!

Does everyone have their passports ready? I certainly hope so, this week’s parade is taking us from 1983 Disneyland in California across the Pacific Ocean to 1983 Tokyo Disneyland!

The opening day parade for Tokyo Disneyland, the Tokyo Disneyland Parade ran from 1983 to 1988. This parade featured traditional and futuristic looking floats carrying our favorite characters along the parade route. There are even some appearances we don’t get to see in the states, like the vultures from The Jungle Book.

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade!

Are you ready for 1983? Well here we are at Disneyland and the park is featuring a new parade, Flights of Fantasy.

The Flights of Fantasy Parade was a daytime/nighttime parade that ran at Disneyland Park from 1983 to commemorate the opening of the newly-renovated Fantasyland. The parade feature scenes from Disney’s most fantastic animated films.
Due to it also being a nighttime parade, it replaced the Main Street Electrical Parade for that season.

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade!

This week we’re traveling back to Disneyland but this time it’s the Disneyland of 1981 featuring the diversity of the world.

*starts to hum a familiar tune* There’s just one moon and one golden sun and a smile means friendship to everyone.
That’s right, our parade this week celebrates It’s A Small World.

This parade differed from the “Parade of Many Lands” held in decades past in that it did not feature any authentic civic organizations, and was a daily character style parade. It featured Disney characters dressed in costumed…

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade!

Last week we visited Disneyland while it celebrated its 25th anniversary with a wonderful, character filled parade. Today we get to experience another fun filled anniversary.

We are traveling to the Magic Kingdom from 1981 to 1982 while the park celebrates its 10th year open. First in the parade lineup were Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, who rode atop a blue and silver 10th anniversary logo float to the new theme song, “Walt Disney World Is Your World.” The rest of the parade’s floats offered up a visual and audible tour of each of the park’s six unique “lands.”
The…

Today is a very special #SundaysOnParade!

We have a surprise two parade line up for all of our time travel bunnies

Up first is the Disney Easter Parade. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter with family and friends.

With an active turn-of-the-century Main Street, U.S.A in 1956, it seemed natural to have an old-fashioned parade, just as small-town residents might have experienced in the day, and what better occasion than Easter? So when Easter fell on this…

Welcome to our first #SundaysOnParade where we highlight the parades of Disney Parks around the globe.

We’re starting with the most logical place, the park that started it all, Disneyland. While today’s parade is not the first to be presented in Disney history, it is the first I could find video of.

Today’s feature is Fantasy on Parade. Fantasy on Parade was the name of the holiday parade at Disneyland from 1965 to 1976, and again from 1980 to 1985. Although it was billed as a new parade, it reused many popular elements from…

Welcome to week two of our #SundaysOnParade!

Today we’re traveling to 1971 in what once was swampland and a dream in the mind of Walt Disney.

This parade ran in 1971 and featured a small marching band dressed in red and white uniforms playing “The Mickey Mouse Club March,” while Mickey Mouse kept the beat on an over-size drum. A large cast of Disney characters followed, including: Dumbo (“Dumbo”); Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit (“Alice In Wonderland”); Thumper and Flower (“Bambi”); Gepetto and Honest John (“Pinocchio”); Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and the…

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade! Feel free to share with other Disney fans who might enjoy this trip through time.

Today we’re traveling to 1972 to watch a spectacular festival of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights.

The Main Street Electrical Parade was a regularly scheduled parade, created by Bob Jani and project director Ron Miziker, famous for its long run at Disneyland at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World at the Magic Kingdom Park. That ran in the park from 1972-1975, again in 1977-1983, 1985-1996 and finally in 2017. It featured…

Welcome to #SundaysOnParade!
Share with anyone in your life that would enjoy a parade, Disney or a little time travel.

Today we’re traveling to 1975 and the Bicentennial celebration of America.

At Disneyland—and at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World—America on Parade ran from June 14, 1975, through September 6, 1976. Doing double-duty as Disneyland’s afternoon and evening parades, America on Parade displaced the Main Street Electrical Parade for two summers.
Anyone who is old enough to remember 1976 will remember that the American Bicentennial was celebrated as a really big event—and not just at…
