Sundays on Parade

Welcome to our first #SundaysOnParade where we highlight the parades of Disney Parks around the globe.

We’re starting with the most logical place, the park that started it all, Disneyland. While today’s parade is not the first to be presented in Disney history, it is the first I could find video of.

Today’s feature is Fantasy on Parade. Fantasy on Parade was the name of the holiday parade at Disneyland from 1965 to 1976, and again from 1980 to 1985. Although it was billed as a new parade, it reused many popular elements from Parade of Toys. And it continued to evolve.
The Gala Premiere of Fantasy on Parade was 8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 1965. Twice-daily performances began the next day and continued through January 2, 1966.
That’s right. The Christmas season at Disneyland was just two weeks. It was not such a big deal in those days. Park hours on Monday through Friday of the week leading up to Christmas were 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with Fantasy on Parade at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
